HOW TO REGISTER AS A USED CAR DEALER in Trinidad

If you wish to go into the business of importing used vehicles into Trinidad and Tobago you have to first register yourself as a used car dealer. Registration process is quite easy, You can register as a used car dealer as long as you are a national of any Caribbean Community (CARICOM) country. You don’t even have to be a Trinian.

First step is to obtain company registration certificate, Value Added Tax (VAT) Registration Certificate, Board of Inland Revenue (BIR) Advice of assignment of File Number and National Insurance Board (NIB) Registration Certificate. Once you have these documents in your hand you can register by filling out “Registration as an Imported Used Right Hand Drive Motor Vehicle Dealer” application form. Once you have submitted the paperwork, you will need to set up your dealership if you haven’t already. Once your form is submitted, a Trade Officer from the Trade Licence Unit is likely to pay a visit to your premises to ensure that the physical requirements for a dealership are in place. If he approves and your application is acceptable, you will be summoned before the Chief Trade Officer or Deputy Chief Trade Officer within 20 days and if you pass the interview, he will hand over a registration package to complete. Once registered, the applicant is eligible to apply for an import licence as a Registered Dealer.
